Job search / Career advice / Interview

Respect the time of the interview. It is the basic rule of courtesy. If you are late or can't attend the interview, warn the recruiter. You should be well-dressed and wear a suit. You should be clean, men should be shaved and women a bit powdered. Take some of your CVs with you ; the recruiter might lack your CV. You would then give him one of them. Be very polite. Think that the recruiter is going to judge your behavior.

Young people sometimes go to interviews without having prepared them. They think that this way they will be more spontaneous. It is a big mistake. If you want to give the maximum you can, you should prepare an interview. The most difficult questions are the questions on your strengths and weaknesses. You will necessarily have to talk about your personality. The trap is to give the recruiter weapons against you. Therefore, don't talk about any aspect of your personality that would eliminate you automatically.

Enumerate the qualities needed for the job you are applying for, and think about the ones you posess and that are adapted to the job. It is these qualities that you must emphasize. For your weaknesses, find a few small weaknesses to give to the recruiter.

You will also have to talk about your successes, your experience. You will then have to think about all your experiences that give a positive image of yourself. You will also have to talk about your education and your career plans.

You will have to answer questions, but you must also ask questions. The goal is to show your interest for the job and for the company : "what will be the projects of your company for the next years ?". Your questions show that you are motivated and curious.
The questions should depend on the job and the company. As always, the better you will know the company and the sector, the more efficient you will be. You should look for informations in magazines, on the Internet, or by your relations.
